Jehovah (God of Israel), the ONE who fulfills

I learned not too long ago that God has many names but personally I knew him only by God, Lord, Immanuel (meanings God’s with us), or Jesus Christ ( the Son of the living God). I read a while ago that God has nearly a 100 names in the bible, now I never caught a hundred names but as time went on and I grew to familiarize myself about the bible. I came to see that there are many names of God, like the Rock, Staff, I AM and then I found out he was called El Shaddai by a song and by a minister, Yah, Yahweh (which is Hebrew for Jehovah).  I learned in bible study that in the book of Exodus where God was revealing himself to Moses, and he was talking to Moses through a burning bush. He told Moses that he was going fulfill the promises that he promised Moses fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and he was going to bring the Israelites that were enslaved out of Egypt and Moses was going to lead them. However, Moses was skeptical and he questioned himself if he really would be capable of doing it because he didn’t know how to speak well and didn’t think he could have convinced the Pharaoh that God wanted him to let his people go. God knew the king of Egypt heart was going to harden, even so he was merciful to the Egyptians giving them the 10 plagues as punishments but also as warnings to tell them (the Egyptians) that they were living an ungodly life and to show the Israelite’s that he, God, was powerful, and was going to fulfill all that he promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacab. However, what stood out among the bible study was that, he revealed himself as El Shaddai to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob which means God Almighty, or what the other translations of the bible say is called in the book of Exodus verse 3 means the All-sufficient God. Exodus 6:3 “And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

The name Jehovah was revealed to Moses because he and the Israelites were going to see the great mighty hand of God but also was going to see the fulfillment of his promises to their fathers that at the time didn’t recognize because it wasn’t in the season and at the time Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had to know God by his name El Shaddai because of their seasons, to know that he is the Almighty, the King of Kings and the Lords of Lords, the GOD who supplies. This, the name Jehovah has to be known to Moses and the Israelites, so they would know this name of God by its meaning, the God Israel, they would know that he is the God who fulfills what he promises. Are we looking for just the El Shaddai, the Sufficient God, which he is, he is everything. He knows all, sees all and there is nothing that he can’t do for you and we as Christians should know that. However, shouldn’t we also see him as the one who fulfills? Now its been a while since the Israelites heard from God at the time of Moses, 400 years to exact and God waited that long to fulfill his promises.

Have you ever felt like you were waiting for something good from God but didn’t get it right a way or it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would turn out? Is it possible that we can see him as a bank, as a powerful being that is going to supply all our needs or do we see him as one who is everything and knows everything and he knows when and what is best for me? If not, then this is how we should think of the Lord as not JUST a provider which he  IS very much so but as a fulfiller. He fulfills us, he supplies us but he fulfills us to the point where we know that regardless of what we may not have now, we have God and if there wasn’t a cent to our name, I know that God is all I need because he fulfills ME.

There is nothing wrong with knowing the names of God, just so you know what they mean because usually they mean something pertaining to a purpose, like El Shaddai was meant for Abraham to know. Jehovah meant something to Moses, as we know Immanuel means something to us as well does the name Jesus Christ. Many names to know in the word but they all lead back to one source that shows us how awesome, merciful, great, powerful and LOVING our God is. Just think today or tomorrow that you may not feel that God is there but he is, it may not seem that your being blessed, but you are. It may not seem that God is even fulfilling his promises that he made to you but he will because his word cannot return to him void. Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” AMEN! Continue to follow him, continue to give him all your heart, mind and soul and do not doubt that he will fulfill all that he has promised.

God bless you and God loves you!

Love,

Bonnibel
