Between the dates of March 3rd- March 5th, Fathom Events along with Focus on the Family are presenting a limited release of the documentary film “The Dropbox” in select cinema across the United States.
What is the premise of the film ? The Drop Box tells the story of South Korean pastor Lee Jong-rak and his heroic efforts to embrace and protect the most vulnerable members of society. It is a heart-wrenching exploration of the physical, emotional and financial toll associated with providing refuge to orphans that would otherwise be abandoned on the streets. But The Drop Box movie is also a story of hope—a reminder that every human life is sacred and worthy of love.South Korea is not the only country grappling with the issue of orphan care. Around the world, there are more than 150 million orphans waiting for forever families to call their own.
I came across the story of Pastor Lee Jong-rak and his efforts with the Dropbox a few years ago in a documentary by Journeymanpictures called ” Should this man get a nobel peace prize” (2012). I remember being touched by his efforts but I could not really find much information on how I could help. To see this film being released on a much more massive scale is exciting and great. I know that when I first heard his story I was inspired and I hope if you do go see this film, that you’ll be inspired not only by this man’s story but by God’s work in his life. God has a purpose for each and every one of us; nothing is too small or too big if God has it for us. As far as the relevancy of this film, I do want to encourage you to see it as a problem that does not just effect Korea but a problem across the world because it is indeed a problem; undoubtedly there are babies being abandoned across the world, because of gender, because of the family not being able to afford it, because of shame, because of inconvenience, etc and it’s not okay. Let’s do something about: Become Aware and see how God will moves you according to his great purpose.
