Valentines Day is often thought of as a day suited mainly for those individuals in a relationship ( bf/gf, husband/wife) or those who are looking to pursue a relationship. Well, while we should spend every day of the showing people love; it’s understandable that those of us who do not fit into those two categories of relationships, want to feel loved on Valentines Day too. Truth is, we are loved and we are valued by our heavenly father, Jesus Christ. Not only is that true, but though society has narrowed their scope of those in relationships/of what love is and looks like, in every relationship it is important to show love; God’s love. Be it your friends, your mother, your neighbor, your family, your enemies…your relationship with Jesus Christ. So, today I wanted to share with you a craft idea that you can give to anybody on Valentines Day: A Jar Of Hearts.
This craft idea was inspired by the title of a song called Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri. I’ve never heard the song but when I heard it; this is the idea that came to mind. Basically you fill a jar with paper hearts with verses that are reminders of God’s love, what his word says about love, and loving others period. What you’ll need: A Mason Jar ( or glass jar period), Ribbon, Construction Paper ( or harder paper than copy paper), glue or tape, candy for the bottom of your jar, scissors, and a pen).
1) Cut out as many paper hearts as the verses that you want to put into the jar. You can make your hearts as little or big as you would like ( just make sure they can fit into the jar).
2) Type out the verses on your computer, print them so that they will fit inside of the heart and glue or tape them to the hearts. You could also write down the verse if you want to.
3) Fill bottom of the jar with candy of choice ( if you want to), and then fold hearts and put into jar until full. Tie a ribbon around jar once you are done ( preferably a Valentines Day ribbon/or in Valentines Day colors).
There you have it. This is just a small little gift that you can give anyone in your life at anytime so that whenever they choose to pull a heart from the jar, they can be reminded of God’s love and everything that comes with God’s love ( loving others, hope, what love is, etc). Love has no boundaries and limits…when it comes to God’s love; it applies to everyone. Below are just SOME of the verses that mention God’s love:
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Romans 5:8: “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God. who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, evenwhen we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved”
1 John 4:9-11 “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.”
1 John 3:1 “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
Romans 13:8 “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”
Galatians 5:13 “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”
Ephesians 4:2 “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,”
1 Peter 1:22 “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,”
1 John 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
Matthew 5:43-48 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Psalm 31:16 “Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!”
Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.”
Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
1 Corinthians 13:13: “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Matthew 22:37 “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love”
1 Peter 4:8-9 “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.”
Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness”
John 15:13:” Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
Luke 6:27-28 – “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13: “And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.”
1 Timothy 4:12: “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
