Before we all get busy with this week ahead of us, god willing, I came across this verse in the bible, Psalms 37:7 recently and I wanted to share it with you guys and the significance that the verse has for our lives. It says “Be Still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes“. We live in a world where patience is being left behind in pursuit to get somewhere or get something quicker. We do not want to wait but we insist that we have it now. We live in a world where the idea that if we don’t give something up right now, we will never have the chance again. We live in a world where immediate gratification or a quick way to gratification is the goal, leading to many of us compromising our integrity, tossing our morals and values and hurting people along the way. What I think we all have to realize is though they may be there, it does not mean that forever we will be here if we aren’t there now. Sometimes we need not to have something now in order that when it is time for us to have what we want, we will be able to keep it ( ultimately it is what God wants that should be what we want).
I say this all to say, you will find that many people have wanted what they wanted and they got what they wanted but later on, they often wind up with nothing. Just because they have it now, are somewhere now, does not mean they will stay there and that is something we need to think about. The pursuit is just as important, if not more important, than the destination. The problem is not necessarily having desires to have a certain way of life for yourself as God has “good” for those who wait on HIM. You see, when we get all rushy and we have to have it now or do something NOW, we often are so fixed on our own desires that we end up not following God ( leading to disobedience) and it’s no wonder we can’t hold on to what we pushed people over to get to in the first place. We may get somewhere or something slower in our timing but in God’s timing, it’ll be perfect so that we will be able to keep what he has given us.
You know, nobody or nothing in this world can give you the security of being able to achieve/have/do something and to KEEP IT except God. People die, people get fired, people lose their families all in a matter of seconds. What you have now can be gone later. And frankly, that is true for us all. But it is hopeful that what we are pursing in this life, what we are waiting for…is something that is not wrapped up in materialism and selfish ambition, but something that God can use to bless others and to bring glory to him. The bible says in Psalms 27:13-14: “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
The Lord has good things for those who wait/obey for the Lord to place them where he wants to be. Waiting is not doing nothing, we confidently and actively wait for the Lord. Despite the world constant message of “now, NOW, now”, we have to WAIT sometimes. This is not all to say there’s a problem with now ( I mean hey your phone is ringing, pick it up NOW if you want to…not later ;p ), but for some things, we just have to wait until later.
Have a wonderful and safe week Sisters 🙂
